Looking Back - the Year's Best Videos
Looking Back - the Year's Best Videos
Saturday, February 6, 2010
So when we posted the year’s best images and invited viewers to vote, I had no idea that there would be so many votes... on a Friday no less! Shouldn’t you all be hard at work? Or prepping for the after-work lime? Anyway, by popular request, these are the the top videos for the year. Much easier for us to go through than the 200,000+ photos made by certain trigger-happy photographers :-)
Many of these videos were shot even prior to Canon’s introduction of manual controls on their hybrid cameras and ss with the year’s top photos, our newest videos from 2010 leave these in the dust. But that’s to be expected right?
For the year’s best images click here.
Video #1: Richard and Sabrina’s “Love Story”. When I met Richard and Sabrina, they said they explicitly didn’t want to hold hands on a beach... I immediately thought of going in completely the opposite direction. I asked them what kind of music they listened too and if they could swim... and left the details at that - until we were well into the shoot. Either brave or stupid on my part. Anyway, in the words of my best friend: Go big or go home. Richard and Sabrina went big, setting the bar for just about every short action-film in the region thereafter.
The year’s best videos, lovingly handpicked (and fought over) by all of us at jtography. You choose the top 5!

Video #2: Brendan and Tracy - Trash the Dress. People always ask me if we really set fire to the dress at the end of this video. No comment. But it’s still the hottest short film we’ve shot.
Video #3: Navin and Nadita’s Wedding Teaser. Any wedding that brings the groom to the ceremony on the roof of a glass-bottom boat in Tobago is a winner. As far as wedding videos go, this was the most watched teaser online last year. Quite a feat considering we shot the video in November. Also it helps that Navin and Nadita have hundreds of wired fans waiting to vote. Guys, breathe, ok? :-)
Video #4: Wayne and Sarah Jane’s Wedding Teaser. Location weddings always make for impressive end results and this was no exception. We thoroughly enjoyed working under trees and a blue sky at O’Farrell’s farm in Santa Cruz - and it shows.
Video #5: Chris Dennis - Between Worlds - Video Teaser 2. Our first teaser for this film was actually watched more but the numbers are possibly skewed by the fact that this second teaser ran for three months in Movie Towne, which was a coup! It was also a major technical accomplishment for us because shooting on and under the water is not easy. Look out for more teasers from this film as we cover Chris’ efforts to crack the top 100 rankings in the World TOur of Surfing this year.
Video #6: Redken - Trinidad Launch. This video didn’t get as many plays online as many of our wedding teasers, for obvious reasons. But it’s hip, cool and well-edited. Why corporate Trinidad hasn’t ditched ‘boring’ video coverage and gone this route with us yet is still a total mystery to me. Kudos to Redken (Salon Essentials) for seeing the light.
Video #7: Tropical Power Coast2Coast Adventure Race 2009 - Teaser. The cause of so much stress last year was losing a serious mount of equipment to the elements on this assignment. We finished the race on a bunch of borrowed Canon Rebels - proof that we can shoot big on just about any camera.
Video #8: Tropical Power Coast2Coast Adventure Race 2009 - Behind-the-Scanes. Is it fair that this assignment gets to feature twice? Forgive us. SHooting the race is so much fun (when gear is not swimming in the sea). And this video gives you an inside look at how we pull it off.
Video #9: Myron and Krista’s Wedding Teaser. Photographs from this wedding did extremely well in voting for image of the year so it’s no wonder that the teaser is here too. Must be something about shooting from under a plastic bag in the driving rain during their ceremony.
Video #10: Demetrius and Ashley’s Wedding Teaser. Tobago again... StoneHaven Villas which is almost a guarantee we’ll have a good shoot. Rain again, but also a beautiful sunset. And a bridal party with a huge sense of humour.
Video #11: Chip and Christine’s Wedding Teaser. We were going to stop at 10 but, like the photography selection, it was just too hard. This video takes it down a pace... and hits you right in the heart where you feel it the most.
Vote! To help make your job easier this time - we’ve allowed multiple selections. So you can vote for your first favourite and then others too. Leave (positive) comments below. Pointless arguing in the comments section will be removed by me :-) one love.
